PEI – Discover Canada’s Food Island – Part 3 What We Made

Published: Dec 3, 2024 by Zimmy · This post may contain Amazon and other affiliate links · Leave a Comment

Discover Canada’s Food Island – What we Made. Our final chapter in the PEI adventure focused on transforming the island’s incredible ingredients into mouthwatering meals.

    What we Made in PEI.

During our stay, we enjoyed two nights at the clean, spacious, and welcoming Holman Grand Hotel in Charlottetown. However, to fully embrace the island’s culinary spirit, we rented a cozy chalet on PEI’s east side, complete with a scenic bay view, a grill, and a seafood pot. This setting allowed us to create delicious dishes inspired by the island’s bounty.

This PEI – Discover Canada’s Food Island 3-Part Blog Series was created in sponsorship with Canada’s Food Island. and Food Bloggers of Canada.  Opinions in this post are our own!

    Lobster and Eggs

We’re talking FRESH lobster straight from the waters of Prince Edward Island 🦞, paired with the creamiest smoked cheddar eggs 🧀, crispy local bacon 🥓, and golden, perfectly seasoned home fries 🥔. Can you even imagine a better brunch? I’ll wait… 😉

Two plates, each with a split lobster and eggs served with bacon and homefries.

Every bite was an explosion of flavour, and guess what? It’s ALL from PEI — the Food Island! From the sea to the farm, this place delivers the best of the best. The lobster? Sweet, succulent, and straight from the Atlantic. The smoked cheddar eggs? Dreamy and rich, with that perfect smoky kick. The bacon? So crispy you’ll be hearing the crunch from across the table! And those home fries? Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. Finished with garnishes like chives, foraged dried rose petals, and a hint of hot sauce — absolute PERFECTION.

This is the magic of PEI — where every ingredient is local, fresh, and bursting with flavour. There’s no better way to taste what this incredible island has to offer. So, if you haven’t yet… it’s time for a food adventure to PEI! Trust me, you won’t regret it!

    Grilled Atlantic Beef Ribeye

When you are in PEI, surrounded by its incredible bounty of fresh, local ingredients, you know a grilled feast is in order! So, we made sure our Airbnb had a grill and got to work!

Two grilled Atlantic Beef Ribeyes served with a beet and kate salad and a roasted PEI potato, parsnips and purple brussels sprouts.

Our second meal was a tribute to PEI’s rich agricultural heritage, starring a perfectly grilled Atlantic beef ribeye—tender, flavourful, and everything you want in a steak. On the side, we had a baked potato straight from farmer Andrew Smith’s storage unit (which we toured earlier!), caramelized mini purple Brussels sprouts, and grilled parsnips. We also thouroughly enjoy our beet and kale salad, topped with Forager Nick Chindamo’s finds from our lunch at North Shore Canteen—fermented autumn olives, sea buckthorn, and unripe gooseberries.

Every bite was a celebration of farm-to-table dining, showcasing the flavours of Canada’s Food Island. This meal wasn’t just food; it was an experience, made even better by the connection to the land and its passionate producers.

    Mussels in Spicy Tomato Broth

This dish brought a taste of PEI’s coast to the table. Succulent mussels simmered in a fragrant garlic, white wine, and tomato sauce were served with crispy tomato toast, perfect for soaking up the flavourful broth. Simple yet elegant, this recipe captures the essence of island living.

While creating this dish, we were lucky to incorporate some unique ingredients gifted by forager Nick Chindamo, including wild chestnut paste, dried rose petals, and fermented gooseberries. While these extras enhanced our meals, they’re not essential for replicating these recipes at home—PEI’s local ingredients stand strong on their own.
